Majority of Downtown Businesses Support Opening Main Street

Our City Council Petition, Signed by 114 Businesses

Each signatory is a separate downtown business with its own business license, many of which operate within shared commercial spaces.

Dear Ventura City Council Members,

We are respectfully requesting the immediate reopening of Main Street to its pre-pandemic configuration.

While the temporary street closure and modifications were helpful during the pandemic, the current configuration is no longer serving many of the businesses that rely on accessibility, visibility, and consistent customer flow.

We are additionally concerned with the recent announcements of several long term businesses choosing to move or close their shops, citing the closure as their main reason.

Reopening Main Street to vehicle traffic would help restore accessibility for customers, improve convenience, and create a more balance and inclusive environment for retail, dining, and service-based businesses alike.

Downtown Ventura is a vital part of our community, and many of us have invested years - if not decades - into building our businesses here. We are asking for thoughtful, timely action that restores accessibility, improves business conditions and supports the long term health of the entire downtown district, by reopening Main Street.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and continued service to our city.

Recent Business Closures

Downtown Ventura's charm has always been its local businesses, the restaurants, shops, and experiences you can't find anywhere else. Since the street closure, that has been changing.

The following businesses have closed, moved, or announced plans to do so, specifically citing the closure as a key reason:

  • Latitudes

  • Limon y Sal

  • Nature's Grill

  • Passport Habits

  • Perianos

  • Snapper Jacks

  • The Refill Shoppe

  • Throwback Junction

  • Tristology

Every closure makes downtown a little quieter and a little emptier. Without action, there may not be much left to save.

Email the City Council and ask them to open Main Street. Then sign up below to stay informed.
